Privacy Policy

SudokuByte is made by ByteSize Data Solutions, LLC ("we"). This policy covers the SudokuByte iPhone app and the website at sudokubyte.app. The short version: no ads, no tracking, no analytics, and no selling of data. We collect only what the features you choose need.

Playing as a guest

You can play every puzzle, lesson and hint without an account. As a guest, your games, pencil marks, timers, settings and lesson progress are stored only on your device. We do not receive them.

If you create an account

You can sign in with an email and password, with Apple, or with Google. We use Google Firebase to run accounts and storage. We receive your email address (or Apple's private relay address, if you choose to hide yours), a user ID, and the name Apple or Google shares, if any. Your games, notes, settings and completed lessons are stored with your account so they sync across your devices.

Ranked play and leaderboards

When you play a ranked game, the moves you make and your time are sent to our server, which checks the game and records your score. Leaderboards show your chosen display name and score to other signed-in players.

The AI tutor

When you ask the tutor a question, your message, the current puzzle (its numbers and your pencil marks) and the conversation so far are sent to our server and then to OpenAI, which writes the reply. OpenAI processes this data to provide the service and does not use it to train its models. We do not store your tutor conversations on our server. We store a running total of what the tutor has cost for your account this month, to keep to the monthly allowance, and short-lived technical logs.

Purchases

Subscriptions and tips are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to confirm whether your account has an active tutor subscription; RevenueCat receives your account's user ID and your purchase records from Apple.

Feedback

If you send feedback from the app or the website, we store your message, the app version, and the email address you give, if any, so we can reply.

Device checks

The iPhone app uses Apple's App Attest through Firebase App Check to confirm requests come from the genuine app. This does not identify you.

Sharing

We share data only with the service providers named above (Google Firebase, OpenAI, RevenueCat and Apple), only to run the features described, and never for advertising. We do not sell personal data.

Keeping and deleting your data

Account data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account, then Delete my account). That permanently deletes your account and its cloud data, and revokes Sign in with Apple. Deleting does not cancel a subscription; cancel that in your Apple Account's Subscriptions. Feedback is kept until it has been read and handled.

Children

SudokuByte is suitable for all ages, but accounts and the tutor are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
